Monument Ceremony
June 16 @ 2:00 pm - 3:00 pm
Since our sister organization in Delaware, the DVFA, is no longer able to hold the annual Finnish Monument ceremony in Chester, PA, FASDV board has decided to organize the Monument Ceremony on June 16, as we are beginning the process of having the 11-ft. granite monument restored and moved. This may be the last time we see the monument at its current location.
The historically significant monument, sculpted by Wäinö Aaltonen, was given by the Finnish Government to the people of the United States in 1938 to celebrate the 300th anniversary of the Finns’ arrival in America.
The Monument Ceremony will be held on Sunday, June 16th at 2pm at the monument’s current location: 1150 Concord Ave, Chester, PA 19013. You will find the location from Google Maps by searching ”Finnish Settlers’ Monument”. Please note that the ceremony will not be held in inclement weather.
