WELCOME to the homepage of the Finnish-American Society of the Delaware Valley. We are a link among Finns and friends of Finland from Philadelphia and its suburbs, southern New Jersey and Delaware. Our mission is to promote Finnish culture, customs, and traditions as well as the knowledge of Finland, its history and language. Our society brings together Finns of the Delaware Valley, Americans of Finnish ancestry and friends of Finland. To spread the “Suomi spirit”, we organize functions and events for our membership. We also act as a representative of the local Finnish community by hosting visitors from abroad and other parts of the U.S.A. We also provide a link between the local community and visiting students, entertainers, artists and others.
FINLAND 100 EVENT!
As we celebrate Finland’s milestone birthday this year, we have invited Ameriikan Poijat, a popular 7-member brass band from Minneapolis, MN to perform in Iltamat at the American Swedish Historical Museum in Philadelphia on Saturday, December 9 at 7pm and entertain us with familiar Finnish songs, dance tunes and concert pieces. Bring your family and friends along! Our traditional Pikkujoulu, Pre-Christmas party, will precede the concert at 4pm with Joulupukki and Joulumuori bringing holiday cheer to all. Antti Vänskä, Deputy Chief of Mission at the Embassy of Finland will be the guest of honor, and champagne and wine reception will follow the concert!
PROGRAMS AND EVENTS OF INTEREST FOR EVERYONE
Our events include a Midsummer celebration in the Philadelphia area, a fall picnic, bus trips and a Christmas party. Some of our smaller gatherings consist of music evenings, cooking demonstrations, golf outings, dances and concert trips. Please view our Event Calendar for upcoming events.
