SUMMARY:Monument Ceremony
DESCRIPTION:Since our sister organization in Delaware\, the DVFA\, is no longer able to hold the annual Finnish Monument ceremony in Chester\, PA\, FASDV board has decided to organize the Monument Ceremony on June 16\, as we are beginning the process of having the 11-ft. granite monument restored and moved. This may be the last time we see the monument at its current location. \nThe historically significant monument\, sculpted by Wäinö Aaltonen\, was given by the Finnish Government to the people of the United States in 1938 to celebrate the 300th anniversary of the Finns’ arrival in America. \nThe Monument Ceremony will be held on Sunday\, June 16th at 2pm at the monument’s current location: 1150 Concord Ave\, Chester\, PA 19013. You will find the location from Google Maps by searching ”Finnish Settlers’ Monument”. Please note that the ceremony will not be held in inclement weather.

SUMMARY:Fundraising Gala for the Monument to the Finnish Settlers
DESCRIPTION:The Fundraising Gala will be held at the historic Oaks Cloister in East Falls\, Philadelphia. All the funds we raise will be used for the restoration and moving the monument to Governor Printz Park in Essington. The monument to the Finnish settlers was given as a gift from Finland to America to celebrate the 300th anniversary of the arrival of Finns and Swedes\, the first permanent European settlers to the Delaware Valley in 1638. The gorgeous granite monument was sculpted by a famous Finnish artist\, Wäinö Aaltonen and placed in Crozer Park in 1938 in the City of Chester\, PA\, which filed for bankruptcy in 2022. We have discovered that the monument is showing severe signs of deterioration\, and the upkeep of its surroundings has been neglected for years. \nEnjoy delectable hors d’oeuvres and decadent desserts with wine and a signature drink. Bid on many silent auction items and services\, including steaming hot sauna experience with cold plunges. Also\, FASDV president Marja Kaisla will perform selections of music by Sibelius with her Trio Excelsior. Get your tickets before they are sold out! Black tie welcome. \nThe venue for the gala is the Oaks Cloister at East Falls;\n5829 Wissahickon Avenue\, Philadelphia\, PA 19144
