Fundraising Gala for the Monument to the Finnish Settlers
December 28 @ 7:00 pm - 9:00 pm
The Fundraising Gala will be held at the historic Oaks Cloister in East Falls, Philadelphia. All the funds we raise will be used for the restoration and moving the monument to Governor Printz Park in Essington. The monument to the Finnish settlers was given as a gift from Finland to America to celebrate the 300th anniversary of the arrival of Finns and Swedes, the first permanent European settlers to the Delaware Valley in 1638. The gorgeous granite monument was sculpted by a famous Finnish artist, Wäinö Aaltonen and placed in Crozer Park in 1938 in the City of Chester, PA, which filed for bankruptcy in 2022. We have discovered that the monument is showing severe signs of deterioration, and the upkeep of its surroundings has been neglected for years.
Stay tuned for more information on tickets and silent auction items.
